'What your price, will give Rs 10,000': Bengaluru woman records harasser

BENGALURU: A 26-year-old woman fought back after a fruit seller allegedly harassed her outside her paying guest accommodation in Ramamurthy Nagar in the early hours of Monday, confronting him, recording the incident on her phone, and later helping police arrest him.The accused, Vijay Raghav, 42, a resident of NRI Layout, was booked following a complaint by the private firm employee from Chikkamagaluru.According to police, Raghav spotted the woman outside the PG around 1.30am and stared at her. When she questioned him, he allegedly asked her “price” and offered Rs 10,000.Enraged, the woman began recording the interaction on her mobile phone, after which Raghav fled on his scooter.Later that morning, she uploaded the video on social media. After it went viral, police contacted her and asked her to file a formal complaint. Cops arrested Raghav based on the complaint, though he gave a different version of events. He claimed he had stopped his scooter to answer a phone call after dropping his business partner. Seeing the woman outside the PG, he looked at her out of curiosity. According to him, she asked if he had never seen a girl wearing shorts before. Irritated, he replied that he would pay Rs 10,000. When she started recording, he left.A senior police officer said that regardless of the exchange leading up to the incident, asking a woman her price and offering money constituted an offence.
