MUMBAI: A Delhi court has rejected Mumbai Police‘s plea for the custody of wanted accused Anmol Bishnoi in the Baba Siddique murder case, the city police informed a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court on Friday.According to an interim compliance report submitted before Special MCOCA Judge Satyanarayan Navander, a Mumbai Police team travelled to New Delhi after the court issued a production warrant. However, the Additional Sessions Judge at Patiala House Court rejected the police’s custody request on July 22. The report did not mention the reasons for the rejection.Anmol, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, is one of the wanted accused in the murder of NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, who was shot dead by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra East on October 12, 2024.After being deported from the United States in November 2025, Anmol was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a separate case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and for extortion. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in New Delhi.The report also updated the court on efforts to trace the two other wanted accused, Mohammad Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar. Police said the search has been intensified, with special teams deployed to Jalandhar in Punjab and Akola in Maharashtra to execute judicial proclamations issued against the duo under Section 84 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).Section 84 of the BNSS allows a court to issue a written proclamation directing an absconding accused to appear before it within 30 days. If the accused fails to appear, further legal action, including attachment of property, can follow.Police also informed the court that Look Out Circulars (LOCs) have been issued against the absconding accused.So far, 27 people have been chargesheeted under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and under the provisions of the MCOCA in connection with Siddique’s killing.Anmol Bishnoi is also wanted in the case related to the firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai’s Bandra in April 2024.
