In a disturbing turn of events, an attendant working at BRIMS Teaching Hospital in Karnataka’s Bidar allegedly secretly photographed the bodies of dead women with his phone inside the hospital mortuary. A case was registered against the accused, identified as Munir Ahmed, who was arrested after the matter came to light.
According to a complaint lodged on May 25, 2026 by Dr Mosinul Haq, Professor and Head of Department at BRIMS, the accused had been employed at the hospital mortuary for several years.
The complaint alleges that during post-mortem examinations, Ahmed removed the clothing from the bodies of dead females and used his personal mobile phone to take nude photographs without any legal permission or official requirement.
Authorities further alleged that the images were stored on his mobile device with malicious intent.
Hospital officials described the incident as a serious breach of professional conduct, medical ethics and confidentiality.
They said the alleged actions undermined the dignity of the deceased women and violated the trust and sentiments of their families.
Following the complaint, the Bidar New Town Police registered a case under Sections 301 and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), noting it as a criminal offence.
Police have launched an investigation into the allegations and are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe and the evidence collected during the investigation.
The incident has sparked concern over conduct and oversight within mortuary facilities, with authorities emphasising the need to uphold ethical standards and protect the dignity and privacy of deceased individuals at all times.
Further investigation and the interrogation of the accused is underway, police said.
