Ather has introduced a new Over The Air (OTA) update to its Gen 3 scooters, and it now adds a new voice command feature, along with other goodies. With the AtherStack7 update, the brand claims it’s to improve rider convenience and safety, as one will not be distracted by screens while riding.

Co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta shared the rollout on social media, and he mentioned that the update will be compatible with scooters that have the Gen 3 or newer hardware. This includes the Ather Rizta Z (top variant), Ather 450X, and the 450 Apex. Do note that this is not available in the lower variants, such as the Ather 450S and the Rizta S, as they have a relatively simpler LCD console.

The voice command feature will be powered by Ather’s AI, which is tuned to understand multiple Indian accents and dialects. It will enable riders to interact with the scooter without using the touchscreen to improve rider safety and convenience.

The voice commands can be used via Ather’s Halo helmets or via any compatible Bluetooth headset, and can control various aspects like navigation, media controls, calls, and even the scooter settings. Take a closer look at all the features via Tarun Mehta’s post on X here:

Other features in this update include pothole and crash alerts, remote scooter charge control via mobile app, and anti-theft features like remote locking, and even live cricket updates on the display.

Cricket Updates

The brand has also hinted at a talkback feature for future updates, where the scooter will be able to give suggestions, alerts, and feedback to the rider. The update is free (provided you have bought the AtherStack Pro software package that costs over and above the EV’s price), and the new voice command feature should make everyday commutes a bit more convenient. Do note that the voice assist features can be used only via Ather’s smart helmet or a Bluetooth device, as there is no mic onboard the scooter itself.
