Asked not to wash legs inside building, 2 students beat Bengaluru PG owner to death with cricket bat

BENGALURU: A heated argument over washing legs with tap water inside a paying guest accommodation ended in tragedy when the owner, 37-year-old Madhav Matle, was allegedly beaten to death near Kasturinagar Main Road in East Bengaluru on Monday evening.The police swung into action and arrested two accused students, identified as Rakesh (21) and Don Brite Son (20), shortly after the incident.The deceased has been identified as Madhav Matle, owner of Laxmi Narasimha PG. He reportedly confronted two students who were washing their legs using water from a tap inside the PG premises. What began as a verbal argument quickly spiraled into a violent altercation.Based on preliminary investigations, police said the dispute intensified when the accused started abusing Matle filthily after he objected to them entering the building and washing their legs.An angered Matle picked up a cricket bat to confront the duo. The accused overpowered him, snatched the bat from him, and attacked him, causing severe injuries. He later succumbed to the injuries. Ramamurthynagar police rushed to the spot after being alerted about the incident and secured the accused. A case of murder has been registered under section 103 (punishment for murder) of BNS. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Vikram Amathe said both the accused have been arrested and are being interrogated. They do not have a criminal background.Rakesh is a final-year BCom student, while Don Brite Son is a first-year BBA student. According to sources, the two students had consumed alcohol near the PG and later went to wash their legs.
