Nagpur: Nearly five months after he was arrested in an anti-corruption bureau (ACB) trap for allegedly accepting bribe to facilitate release of an overloaded truck, assistant regional transport officer (ARTO) Anup Sanap has been suspended by the state govt.Home department on Friday issued orders placing Sanap under suspension under Rule 4(1) of the Maharashtra Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1979. Sanap was arrested on October 18, 2025, after Kapil Nagar police registered a case against him under Sections 7, 7(A) and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.The case stemmed from an ACB operation following a complaint by a truck owner, whose vehicle was fined Rs50,750 for overloading. According to ACB officials, junior clerk Mohan Divate allegedly demanded Rs5,000 to release the truck without carrying out mandatory inspection. During a trap laid on October 17, Divate was caught allegedly accepting Rs4,000 in tainted currency, while Sanap was booked as a co-conspirator for allegedly endorsing and facilitating the demand.The suspension order states Sanap will remain under suspension until further govt directions. During this period, his headquarters has been shifted to Regional Transport Office, Amravati, and he cannot leave the headquarters without prior permission from competent authority.As per service rules, Sanap will be entitled to subsistence allowance and other admissible benefits during suspension. The govt has also barred him from taking up any private employment or business activity during the suspension period, warning that violation could invite further disciplinary action.
