A woman in Andhra Pradesh allegedly murdered her 38-year-old husband, who suffered from a heart ailment, as she viewed him as an obstacle to her affair with another man, police said on Sunday. To avoid suspicion, the woman and her lover allegedly staged the victim’s death as a heart attack, taking advantage of his history of cardiac problems.

According to police, Ramadevi and her alleged lover, Prasadam Gopisai, whom she met through Instagram, conspired to kill her husband, Pulla Durga Prasad, an auto driver in Kakinada in March. The duo allegedly laced the victim’s juice with sleeping pills, suffocated him after he lost consciousness, and then passed off the murder as a heart attack.

The case came to light when the death of Durga Prasad was initially believed to be natural. Durga Prasad died on March 13 and family members were informed that he had suffered a heart attack. Since he had previously undergone stent procedures and had a history of heart disease, relatives accepted the fact that he had a natural death.

However, months later, investigators received information suggesting foul play. According to police, Ramadevi had developed a friendship with Prasadam Gopisai, a resident of Bapatla district, through Instagram. The acquaintance allegedly developed into an affair, police said.

Police allege that Ramadevi and Gopisai conspired to kill Durga Prasad by lacing his juice with sleeping pills and suffocating him after he lost consciousness, before passing off the murder as a heart attack to avoid suspicion.

The murder surfaced after a message containing details about the incident was recently sent to the victim’s family, prompting them to approach the police. Subsequent inquiries led investigators to Ramadevi and Gopisai, who were arrested on murder charges.
