Nagpur: Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, through a written reply in Assembly on Friday, informed that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) housing colony at Wathoda has been provided all basic infrastructure as per the approved development plan. He refuted allegations of missing amenities, sub-standard construction and rising crime at the site. The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) completed 3,580 housing units under the scheme by November 13, 2021, Shinde said. Of these, 264 units are at Mauza Wathoda and 3,316 at Mauza Tarodi (Khurd). Basic amenities and maintenance are being managed through registered cooperative societies of allottees for both projects, Shinde said.Various MLAs had alleged that approximately 2,300 families residing in the colony still lacked roads, water supply, sewerage and a health centre as of April 2026. They also alleged that residents faced severe hardship due to absence of mobile network coverage, dilapidated drains and a deficient sewage system. The MLAs further alleged that drug peddling and anti-social elements had increased in the colony, creating an atmosphere of fear among women. Shinde said only one gambling case was registered at Wathoda police station in 2025 and action was taken against the accused. No illegal activity has been registered in the colony in 2026, he added. On the allegation that sub-standard work by contractors and the agencies concerned had led to seepage and cracks in the buildings, Shinde said all construction was carried out as per govt standards and all terms and conditions of the tender.Third-party technical inspection was conducted by the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, and all works were certified as having been done as per quality standards and rules, the Deputy CM said.
