After PM’s appeal, 500 VNSGU staffers to carpool

Surat: After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for carpooling, working from home and virtual meetings to save fuel, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) has decided to adopt these measures. University vice-chancellor Kishorsinh Chavda issued a circular to academic and administrative staff to save fuel by adopting these measures.Chavda told TOI : “Every day more than 500 staffers commute to the university campus from various parts of Surat. We have asked them to co-ordinate and carpool. We have also asked them to use electric vehicles so fuel can be saved. We will now call various meetings and prepare a plan on how to follow this policy. We have also decided to opt for online meetings, especially those for administrative and guidance purposes, so fuel and time can be saved.”Apart from the VNSGU campus in Surat, the circular has been sent to colleges affiliated with the university in Bharuch, Narmada, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts. “Many times college officials travel to Surat for such meetings which could have been done online. We will conduct such meetings online with an in-depth plan soon. This will save fuel and time which could be used for the students’ welfare and academic activities.
