Tamil Nadu BJP faced a jolt on Friday after two leaders walked out of the party, just hours after former state party unit chief K Annamalai’s resignation. BJP state vice president Karu Nagarajan and State Secretary Sumathi Venkatesh also tendered their resignations.
Nagarajan and Venkatesh confirmed their resignations from the BJP on Friday. The former BJP Tamil Nadu VP declared his intention to join Annamalai’s new political outfit.
Nagarajan stated that Annamalai would not hesitate to point out mistakes made by anyone, not just Chief Minister Vijay. He also described Annamalai as a brave and capable leader with extensive knowledge across various sectors, according to reports.
Meanwhile, Venkatesh posted her resignation letter on social media, saying she chose to step down from her position “with a heavy heart” and conclude her association with the party.
“It has been a matter of great pride and privilege to serve the party. I remain deeply inspired by the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and the ideals of nationalism, patriotism and service to the nation that the BJP upholds. These values have guided me throughout my journey and will continue to do so,” she wrote.
Annamalai’s Resignation
The resignations came after former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party, ending weeks of suspense over his political future. BJP national president Nitin Nabin has accepted his resignation from both the party’s primary membership and organisational responsibilities, bringing to a close Annamalai’s six-year association with the BJP.
In his resignation letter, Annamalai said he had joined the BJP inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and to change Tamil Nadu’s political culture. While expressing gratitude to the party leadership for entrusting him with key responsibilities, he revealed that he had conveyed his disagreements with the top leadership over the past 18 months.
“After my conversations with our senior leadership, I have come to the conclusion that our views don’t align regarding Tamil Nadu,” he wrote.
