The Hindu Temples Recovery Movement on Wednesday urged the authorities to restore the traditional water supply system from the Cauvery to the Rockfort Teppakulam in Tiruchi.
Addressing media persons, movement’s Executive Chairman A. Vaiyapuri said the centuries-old Teppakulam used to receive water from the Cauvery until about 100 years ago. But the Tiruchi Corporation’s claim that water was being supplied through tanks was unacceptable.
He alleged that encroachments by private establishments had been obstructing the traditional water channels leading to the tank and rejected the Corporation’s claims that bringing water from the Cauvery was not feasible.
