Gurgaon: With less than a week to go till the May 31 deadline to complete the house listing phase of Census 2027, the work in Gurgaon district is still hovering around the halfway mark.According to the latest figures, out of 4,835 total blocks, only 2,642 (55%) have been covered, while 2,193 blocks (45%) are still in process.Officials have expressed concern over the slow pace, especially in urban zones, where dense population clusters require more time but have not shown proportionate progress. In urban Gurgaon, Gurugram Zone 1 has recorded a 56% completion rate, Zone 2 and 3 around 48%, and Zone 4 39%. Around 42.4% of Manesar Municipal Corporation has been covered. Rural units, however, have shown strong progress, with 97.1% of the work in Manesar Tehsil already done.In line with the trend of more headway being made in rural zones, Sohna Tehsil has seen 87% of the work completed, Pataudi Tehsil 80%, Farukh Nagar Tehsil 91%, and Farukh Nagar Municipal Committee 98%. Wazirabad Tehsil has achieved 100% completion, as has Pataudi Mandi MC.Officials acknowledge that there is a very tight window in which the remaining half of the district must be covered. Supervisors have been instructed to intensify field monitoring, deploy additional enumerators where required, and ensure daily reporting. District authorities are expected to conduct review meetings throughout the week to push for accelerated ground activity. An official said many enumerators were delaying the work for fear of being allotted another block. “We have informed them that nobody will be given an additional block. This has helped them go faster.”The official added that many enumerators had completed the work but were yet to upload it. “Once the system is updated, it will reflect a much higher completion rate,” the official said.
