You can now talk to Spotify

Spotify is rolling out a new feature starting today. Basically, it’s a built-in AI chatbot that lets you talk to Spotify both in the Home view and in Now Playing. This will only be available on mobile.

You aren’t limited to talking, however – you can also type your requests or questions. You can have a back-and-forth conversation with Spotify, just like you can with any other AI chatbot.

You can learn more about the music you love, revisit your listening history, go deeper on podcasts and audiobooks – or just ask to hear some artists you have never heard before. Once the playlist gets going, you can continuously fine-tune it.

You can also save songs, add them to your queue, follow artists, all of that – by simply telling Spotify what you want (or typing it). While you’re listening to something, you can ask about that song – like what the inspiration behind it was, what genre it is, when was the album released, that sort of thing.

Spotify can give you more context, guide you to related artists and stories, and when it comes to podcasts or audiobooks you can ask about the people, stories, and ideas behind it. And of course, Spotify can answer questions about your own taste.

This is rolling out in beta in English for Premium users who are over 18 in the US, Ireland, and Sweden on iOS and Android. It’s unclear how long the beta will last or when it will be available in other markets.
