CHENNAI: A bird strike grounded a British Airways flight that was supposed to fly from Chennai to London in the wee hours of Monday. The bird hit took place around 3.30 am seconds before the flight landed in Chennai with 226 passengers on board from London. However, the flight landed safely and the passenger were deboarded. The flight was moved to the remote apron where an engineering team assessed the damage caused by the bird hit. Since additional checks had to be carried out to declare that the plane is fit to fly, its subsequent journey from Chennai to London, scheduled at 5.30 am, was declared cancelled. British Airways confirmed the bird hit incident and said that all the passengers of the cancelled flight have been accommodated at hotels. “Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also been apprised of the incident,” said British Airways.
