Patna News: The long-running controversy over the vacation of Bihar’s iconic 10 Circular Road bungalow has taken a fresh turn, with former Chief Minister Rabri Devi seeking additional time to hand over the government residence. Although June 29 was the deadline fixed by the Building Construction Department, the bungalow may now be vacated on July 5 due to a dispute over the official inventory of government property allotted with the house. Rabri Devi’s personal secretary has written to the Secretary of the Building Construction Department, referring to the department’s final eviction notice issued on June 22. The letter stated that during an inspection on June 24, officials were unable to provide the authorised inventory and charge register of the government-owned items that had been supplied when the bungalow was allotted.

Rabri Devi has requested that the department first provide the official list so that every item can be verified before the residence is formally handed over. According to the letter, the exercise is intended to prevent any future disputes regarding government property after the bungalow is vacated. Rabri Devi was allotted the 10 Circular Road residence in 2006, making the inventory records nearly two decades old. She has requested time until July 5 to complete the verification process after receiving the official list of items from the department. Apart from the inventory issue, July 5 also coincides with the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) foundation day, leading to speculation that the family may complete the move on that date.

Meanwhile, the Lalu Prasad Yadav family has already begun shifting belongings out of the government bungalow in Patna. Furniture, air conditioners, computers, clothes and other household items were loaded onto trucks on Sunday and Monday. Even trees and plants that had been part of the residence for years were carefully relocated. The Building Construction Department had issued four successive notices directing Rabri Devi to vacate the bungalow, with the fourth and final notice setting June 29 as the deadline.

Where Will Tejaswi Yadav Stay? According to sources, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has now fully shifted to his official residence at 1 Polo Road and will no longer stay with his parents at 10 Circular Road. His personal belongings and official documents have already been moved to the new residence, while other household items from the bungalow are being transported to Kautilya Nagar and other private family properties.

Where Will Lalu And Rabri Stay? Although the Bihar government has allotted Rabri Devi a new official residence at 39 Harding Road, construction work there is yet to be completed. Sources said a dedicated medical room is being prepared at the new bungalow to meet the healthcare requirements of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. Until the residence is ready, the couple is expected to stay either at Tejashwi Yadav’s residence at 1 Polo Road or at another private family property.

The issue of vacating 10 Circular Road has triggered a political confrontation for several months. The Building Construction Department has maintained that the government accommodation must be vacated after Rabri Devi’s tenure as Chief Minister ended. The RJD, however, has described the repeated eviction notices as an act of political vendetta.

Amid the shifting process, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya shared an emotional message on social media, reflecting on the family’s departure from the residence. She wrote that some homes become repositories of cherished memories, making it emotionally difficult to leave them behind. She also said the family had learned resilience from Lalu Prasad Yadav, adding that despite challenges, his courage and ideals continued to inspire them and millions of others.
