Davanagere: The case involving a suspected terrorist found in Bannikodu village of Harihar taluk took a serious turn on Friday, prompting special teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to arrive in Harihar to intensify the probe. Working jointly with local police, the officers gathered several crucial details.The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Suhail from Uttar Pradesh, who lived in Bannikodu village in Harihar taluk while working as a painter. Acting on specific information, Harihar Rural police launched an operation and detained him. After a medical examination, he was produced before the Harihar JMFC court, which remanded him in 10 days of police custody.Following the court’s order, NIA and ATS officials stepped up the investigation and set up a temporary camp at the Harihar Rural police station, where they carried out intensive questioning.Investigators focused on how Suhail, who was alleged to have links with Pakistan-based terror outfits, came to use the otherwise peaceful village of Bannikodu as a hideout. They also examined whether any locals provided him shelter or assistance, or helped arrange rented accommodation.The inquiry also looked into whether there was any plot to carry out destructive acts in different parts of the state or country, and whether he communicated through social media or secret digital groups. Data from the accused’s mobile phone, laptop and other digital devices was collected and subjected to technical analysis.Given the seriousness of the case, investigative agencies examined every possible angle, and more significant revelations are likely in the coming days.
