Yadgir: A 70-year-old man died under suspicious circumstances after being summoned to a police station for questioning in connection with a land dispute, sparking allegations of police assault and demands for an independent probe.The deceased, identified as Rajesab Valikar of Karikal village in Hunasagi taluk, was called to Narayanpur police station on Monday following a complaint related to a land dispute. According to his relatives, he was allegedly assaulted by ASI Sangappa during questioning. They claimed the elderly man fell ill and collapsed shortly after the incident.Police personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors reportedly declared him dead. The death triggered outrage among family members and villagers, who gathered outside the hospital and the police station, demanding action against those responsible. Protesters also called for a judicial or high-level inquiry.As the allegations intensified, senior police officers, including SP Prithvik Shankar, ASP Dharanesh, and CPI Ravikumar, visited the spot and conducted an inspection. CPI Ravikumar said the exact cause of death would be known only after the postmortem report is received, adding that further investigation is under way.The police department is yet to issue an official statement on the allegations. The incident has raised concerns among locals, with growing calls for a thorough and impartial investigation.
