Nagpur: A tip-off about narcotics trafficking led Crime Branch officials to an unusual case on Saturday, where a man was allegedly found with nearly half a kilogram of opium powder which he claimed he purchased for ‘medicinal purposes’.Acting on specific information, Crime Branch personnel apprehended Paramjit Sasan from Kapil Nagar area and recovered approximately 500 grams of opium powder, commonly known as doda powder, from his possession. The seizure prompted a wider investigation into the source of the contraband and the network involved in its distribution.During interrogation, Sasan allegedly disclosed the identity of the person who supplied him with the narcotic. Based on the information, police traced another accused identified as Kalia, who was subsequently taken into custody. Police sources said the case took an interesting turn during questioning when Sasan allegedly claimed that he had purchased the substance believing it could help treat diabetes. Doda, also known as poppy husk, is derived from the dried husk and stem of the opium poppy plant and has long been associated with traditional and folk remedies in some parts of the country.
