Mumbai: Over 75,000 trees have been planned for Coastal Road’s 130-acre gardens, which will create a vast new green lung for Mumbai, said Reliance Foundation chairperson Nita Ambani on Friday. She said work on the project has commenced, with a team of landscape architects, ecologists and engineers working on the master plan, and 15,000 trees are already on site. The gardens will feature a rich mix of flora and fauna, along with attractions such as a tree museum aimed at promoting awareness about biodiversity and conservation. Drawing comparisons with some of the world’s most iconic urban parks, Ambani said every great city is defined by a landmark green space—from Central Park in New York and Hyde Park in London to the Botanic Gardens in Singapore. The aspiration, she said, is for the Coastal Road gardens to become a similarly defining public space for Mumbai.
