LG inaugurates first all-women police station in North Delhi
19 All woman police station

New Delhi: Lieutenant governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Friday inaugurated the capital’s first all-women police station (WPS) in north Delhi’s Subzi Mandi area, a facility dedicated to investigating crimes against women and children. The police station, operational from June 19, has jurisdiction over the entire North district and has subsumed the existing Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell. It will handle cases ranging from domestic violence and dowry harassment to offences such as sexual assault, molestation, stalking, harassment, rape and crimes against children.Addressing the gathering, Sandhu said the success of the initiative would be measured not just by the number of cases handled but by the confidence it instils among women and girls seeking justice. He also stressed the need for public participation in reporting crimes and improving safety.Delhi Police commissioner Satish Golchha said the force’s approach to women’s safety is based on four pillars — prevention, protection, prompt investigation and public participation. He said Delhi Police operates 116 pink booths across the city, deploys all-women PCR vans and has provided self-defence training to over 3 million women and girls. The WPS builds on existing women-centric initiatives in the area, including pink booths, Rani Jhansi Squad and Vamika, a patrol vehicle for the safety of female students in Delhi University’s North Campus.
