UPSC Prelims Results 2026: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Monday declared the results of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026, clearing the way for thousands of aspirants to move to the next stage of the country’s premier recruitment examinations. The preliminary examination was conducted on May 24, 2026, and serves as the screening test for both the Civil Services Examination (CSE) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination.According to the commission, a total of 13,343 candidates have qualified for admission to the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2026, while 1,046 candidates have been shortlisted for the Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2026. The candidature of all shortlisted candidates remains provisional and subject to fulfilment of eligibility conditions prescribed under the examination rules. Civil Services mains registration window opens from June 19UPSC has announced that candidates shortlisted for the Civil Services (Main) Examination will be required to complete a mandatory online process between June 19 and June 28, 2026. During this period, candidates must submit the prescribed examination fee of Rs 200, except those exempted under the rules, including female, PwBD, SC and ST candidates.The online window will also allow candidates to update or submit details relating to scribes, assistive devices and large-font question papers for the mains examination. In addition, candidates will have to fill in their cadre preferences for the Civil Services Examination.The commission has emphasised that all qualified candidates must log in to the UPSC portal and update or reconfirm their details before submitting the application form. Candidates who fail to complete this process will not be permitted to participate in the subsequent stages of the examination. Even those who have no changes to make are required to log in, verify their details and submit the form to enable generation of their e-admit cards.Fewer candidates shortlisted for both examinations this yearThe number of candidates shortlisted for the Civil Services Main Examination has declined compared with the previous year. In 2025, UPSC had shortlisted 14,161 candidates against 1,087 notified vacancies. This year, 13,343 candidates have qualified for the mains examination against 1,016 vacancies notified for the Civil Services Examination, 2026.A sharper decline has been recorded in the Indian Forest Service examination. While 2,116 candidates were shortlisted for the IFS Main Examination in 2025 against 150 vacancies, only 1,046 candidates have qualified this year for 80 notified vacancies.UPSC has stated that the schedule for the online application window for qualified IFS candidates will be announced separately. The commission also informed candidates that the result of one aspirant bearing roll number 6300119 has been withheld pending the outcome of an ongoing court case.Marks and cut-offs to be released after final resultsCandidates have been informed that marks, cut-off marks and answer keys for the preliminary examination will not be released immediately. UPSC said these details will be uploaded on its website only after the entire examination process for both the Civil Services Examination and the Indian Forest Service Examination is completed and final results are declared.Candidates seeking clarification regarding their results may contact the UPSC facilitation centre between 9 am and 8 pm through the telephone numbers notified by the commission.
