Ahmedabad: An engaged couple, a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old youth, died by suicide after jumping into the Narmada Canal, police said. Though the body of the boy, identified as Himesh Bharatadi, has been found, Adalaj police said the body of the girl, Abha Bharatadi, was not found till late evening. Eyewitnesses told police that the couple took the extreme step on Saturday morning.Adalaj PI S D Desai said a case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway.The eyewitnesses told cops that the girl was seen running towards the canal after parking her two-wheeler. She then jumped into the canal. The families of the couple were called to the spot and questioned about possible reasons for the suicide.Police said the families told them the two left their homes saying they would be back soon. They were to be married after reaching the legal age for marriage.Police said the exact reason for the suicide is not known to the families.
