2 Pb cadre officers for DG posts at Centre

Chandigarh: The appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC) has approved empanelment of two 1995-batch IPS officers of Punjab cadre Amit Prasad and Kapil Dev for holding Director General and equivalent-level posts at Centre. Amit Prasad is serving as additional director general of police (ADGP) Counter Intelligence and head of the Internal Security Wing. Kapil Dev, another ADGP ranked official, is on a central deputation.The duo joins the league of five other IPS officers of Punjab cadre who were earlier empanelled to hold DG/DG equivalent posts at Centre. 1992-batch IPS officer Gaurav Yadav, who is serving as Punjab DGP since July 2022, was empaneled to hold DG/DG equivalent post at Centre in February 2025.The other four IPS officers of Punjab cadre namely Amardeep Singh Rai, Anita Punj, Praveen Kumar Sinha and Sudhanshu S Srivastava (all 1994-batch) were empanelled to hold DG/DG equivalent posts at Centre in July 2025. They were among the officers promoted to the rank of DGP in Punjab earlier that month.The minimum qualifying service in the (IPS for consideration for empanelment to hold DG and equivalent-level posts at the Centre is 30 years.IPS officers empanelled for DG and equivalent-level posts may be considered for appointment as Director General of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) such as the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).Such empanelled officers may also be considered for senior positions in central investigation and intelligence agencies, including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Investigation Agency (NIA), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).They may further be appointed to senior positions in organisations such as the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), National Security Guard (NSG) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), as well as other DG-equivalent posts under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and allied security organisations.Prasad and Dev are among the 29 IPS officers of 1995-batch from various State cadres and AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, andUTs) who have been empanelled by the ACC to hold DG/DG equivalent posts at Centre. In addition, the ACC has approved empanelment of one IPS officer of same batch to hold DG equivalent post at Centre and three IPS officers IPS batches of 1990, 1991 and 1994 to hold DG/DG equivalent posts at Centre.
