As the first anniversary of the Air India 171 crash falls today, the final report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s (AAIB) probe is likely to take another two months, top sources tracking the investigation told India Today. The sources stressed that the inquiry remains on the right track and assured that “nothing will be kept in the dark”, with all findings eventually being placed in the public domain.
Highly placed sources familiar with the progress of the investigation said the probe is aimed at producing a comprehensive final report. Amid growing speculation over the findings, a source said all aspects of the investigation would be disclosed once the process is complete.
“Nothing will be kept in the dark. All details will be brought into the public domain,” the source told India Today.
The source also dismissed certain international media reports surrounding the probe, saying some of the speculation “doesn’t hold any ground.” According to the source, no objections have been raised by GE Aerospace, whose engines remain a key area of focus in the investigation.
Another senior source monitoring the probe said the Ministry of Civil Aviation has been regularly reviewing the progress of the investigation, with top officials being periodically briefed on developments related to the probe and the preparation of the final report. However, the ministry has maintained a clear distance from any internal findings or sensitive details emerging from the investigation, the source added.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.
