Is 1,100 Dirhams Enough To Live In Dubai? 23-year-Old Account Shares Honest Breakdown Of Budget | Video
Still think Dubai is expensive? The city is often associated with luxury lifestyles, towering skyscrapers and high living costs. But a 23-year-old Indian accountant has challenged that perception after sharing a detailed breakdown of her monthly expenses, revealing that she spends just around 1,100 dirhams a month while living and working in the city.
In a video posted on Instagram, Surya Gayathry shared her monthly budget, covering everything from groceries and internet bills to transport, shopping, and dining out. While she spends only 1,100 dirhams per month, there is a catch. She said, “The major expense is, of course, rent, but luckily I have company accommodation so that whole rent portion is cut, which is honestly an absolute relief.”
She then explained that she lives in an area with very few nearby restaurants, which means she cannot eat out and relies on cooking for herself. Groceries are her biggest monthly expense. She spends around 100 dirhams a week and roughly 500 dirhams per month on groceries. The accountant spends 200 dirhams per month on her personal Wi-Fi connection.
Transportation, one of the biggest expenses in the city, remains relatively low for Surya because she lives and works in the same building. “Since I live and work in the same building, I barely have any travel expense. I recharge my Nol card for about 70 dirhams per month, and maybe once a month, I take a taxi from my nearest metro station to my accommodation, which costs me around 35 dirhams, so travel comes around 100 to 110 depending upon the frequency of taking the taxi,” she explained.
For leisure, she allocates around 100 dirhams a month for dining out on weekends and tries to keep her shopping budget between 100 and 150 dirhams. Miscellaneous expenses, including water and deliveries, add another 50 dirhams to her monthly budget. Towards the end of the clip, she told her viewers that her budget reflects her personal lifestyle and that expenses can vary significantly.
Once she shared the clip, people online were impressed by her budgeting, with one saying, “Very well.”
“Accountants are good at living in low cost and controlling expenses so that they save efficiently,” a different individual shared.
Someone else commented, “Same to you, but my salary below 3500″
“Work and live in the same building sounds so cool,” mentioned another person.
