The Tamil Nadu Tasmac Employees’ Union (AITUC) on Saturday passed a series of resolutions demanding job regularisation, pension benefits, and sweeping reforms in the State’s liquor trade, at its State Council meeting held here.

Presiding over the meeting, union State president and former MLA N. Periyasamy said workers recruited through employment offices in 2003 — when the State government took over retail liquor trade from private syndicates — had served for over 23 years without job security, periodic wage revision, or retirement benefits. “These employees were made to deposit security amounts of up to ₹50,000 while joining duty. Despite decades of loyal service, they remain contract workers with no standing orders and no protection. We urge Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s government to end this injustice,” he said.

The union demanded that the 3,474 employees of the 717 shops closed under the Chief Minister’s orders be absorbed into vacant posts in other government departments based on their qualification.
