Bulldozer action against smugglers: Jammu and Kashmir authorities demolish alleged drug trafficker’s house

SRINAGAR: Amid a heavy police presence, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir carried out a major anti-drug crackdown on Saturday, demolishing the house of alleged drug trafficker Navjot Singh alias Bablu in the Miran Sahib area of R.S. Pura in Jammu.Officials said the demolition was carried out in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), R.S. Pura. J&K LG Manoj Sinha had on April 11 launched a 100-day intensive drive under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan to make Jammu and Kashmir “drug-free.”The campaign involved large-scale awareness programmes by the civil administration and police, destruction of poppy cultivation, random urine testing of drivers and intensified crackdowns on drug networks. Awareness drives have also been carried out in schools and government institutions.According to officials since April 11, about 897 alleged drug peddlers have been arrested and recommendations have been made to cancel passports of 18 alleged drug traffickers.Officials also said that the driving licenses of 382 alleged drug traffickers have been cancelled. Officials also added that 49 immovable properties belonging to alleged drug peddlers have been seized and 45 properties demolished.
