Marie Wilson is believed to have played a significant organisational role within TVK during the party’s early expansion phase.

Weeks after securing his maiden electoral victory from the Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar) Assembly constituency, N Marie Wilson has been entrusted with the crucial Finance portfolio in the Tamil Nadu government led by Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK).

The announcement was made as the Vijay-led administration expanded its cabinet and distributed portfolios among newly inducted ministers.

Wilson’s appointment is viewed as one of the most significant decisions in the cabinet reshuffle, given the Finance department’s importance in the new government.

Prominent Educationist Turned Politician

Before entering active politics, Marie Wilson built a strong presence in Tamil Nadu’s education sector.

Since January 2011, he has served as the Managing Director of Jeppiaar Institute of Technology in Sriperumbudur, located in Kanchipuram district. He also serves as the Managing Trustee of the Jeppiaar Remibai Educational Trust.

Earlier, Wilson worked as the founder-director of Jeppiaar Engineering College from 2001 to 2010 and also headed Jeppiaar International School between 2003 and 2010.

Apart from academics, he is the Director of JIT Global Infosystems Pvt Ltd and founder-director of JIT Sports Academy.

Massive Victory From RK Nagar

Wilson contested from RK Nagar as a TVK candidate and registered a decisive win against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate J John Ebenezer. He secured 97,800 votes, comfortably defeating Ebenezer, who polled 48,132 votes.

The constituency witnessed exceptionally high voter participation during the 2026 Assembly elections, recording a turnout of 90.12%, significantly higher than the 70.98% turnout recorded during the 2021 polls.

RK Nagar went to the polls on April 23, 2026.

In the previous Assembly election held in 2021, DMK’s John Ebenezer had won the seat by defeating AIADMK’s Raajesh R S with a margin of 42,479 votes.

Joined TVK Alongside Several High-Profile Faces

Wilson joined Vijay’s political movement as part of a group that included several notable personalities such as former IRS officer KG Arunraj, former judicial officer C Subash, and former MLAs R Rajalakshmi, S David Selvan and Dr A Sridharan.

His entry into politics also marked the Jeppiaar family’s return to electoral politics after decades.

The last major political attempt from the family came in 1989, when Col Dr Jeppiaar contested the Tamil Nadu Assembly election from T Nagar on the Janaki faction ticket, though he was unsuccessful.

Played Key Role In TVK’s Internal Strategy Meetings

Marie Wilson is also believed to have played a significant organisational role within TVK during the party’s early expansion phase.

He was reportedly instrumental in organising Vijay’s indoor closed-door address at the Jeppiaar Institute of Technology campus following the September 27, 2025 Karur stampede incident.

The meeting was considered politically important as it became TVK’s first major internal gathering after the controversy surrounding the Karur incident.

Named Candidate In TVK’s Full 234-Seat List

Wilson was officially announced as TVK’s candidate for RK Nagar when the party unveiled its complete 234-seat candidate list on March 29 and 30, 2026.

His rise from education administrator to Finance Minister within months of contesting his first election highlights the rapid political transformation taking place within the Vijay-led party and Tamil Nadu’s changing political landscape.
