Ahmedabad: At its Thursday meeting, AMC’s standing committee decided to make hearse services completely free by removing the nominal fee charged till now. Committee chairman Kamlesh Patel said, “Until now, AMC used to collect designated charges for carrying bodies from hospital to home or from home to crematorium. It was decided to waive these charges.”Patel also said police verification of around 80% of the guards AMC has hired is complete.“Currently, AMC is utilising the services of around 2,968 guardsmen, basic guards and security guards through 14 agencies. When AMC appoints them, their police verification is conducted. Excluding guards from agencies that were recently tendered, verification for upto 80% is done.“Regarding the Vadaj flyover, the chairman said load tests on the middle span will soon be complete.Patel said AMC is also testing AI responses to callers on the 155303 helpline for complaints and information. “It will be implemented if the demos are successful. Additionally, the heritage department has prepared a Rs 155 crore temple circuit project under which 35 dilapidated temples will be restored and plazas developed from Vasant Chowk to Atal Ghat,” he added.
