Kanpur: Four people, including three members of a family, were killed, while a woman suffered critical injuries after their car collided head-on with a truck on NH-34 in the Maudaha Kotwali area of Hamirpur district on Sunday afternoon.The accident took place around 12:30 pm between Chhirka and Mavaiya villages while the victims were returning from Bageshwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh.The deceased were identified as Narendra (55), Rajkapur (57), his wife Meena (54), and driver Ayush Chauhan (25). Narendra’s wife, Rekha (52), was critically injured and referred to Kanpur for advanced treatment.Police said all the victims were members of the same family.The collision left the van completely mangled, causing panic along the highway. Police reached the spot and, with the help of locals, recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination in Maudaha. Traffic on the national highway remained disrupted for hours until the damaged vehicles were cleared.Maudaha Kotwali in-charge Santosh Kumar said that, prima facie, the accident appears to have been caused either due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel or an attempt to overtake another vehicle. Hamirpur SP Mrigank Shekhar Pathak said that the truck and its driver have been taken into custody, and necessary legal action is being taken.
