Berhampur: Excise personnel of Berhampur division arrested three persons, two of them from Kerala, on Wednesday for allegedly illegally transporting ganja in two cars. The accused persons were Karuna Digal (18) of Gadipadar, near Baliguda in Kandhamal district, Abdul Razaque (37) and Mohammed Jafarali AM (26) of Vidyanagar in Kerala’s Kasaragod district, he said.They seized around 80kg of ganja and the cars near the first gate area here. Three mobile phone sets were also seized. The cost of the seized properties was around Rs 20 lakh, said Srutikant Routa, deputy superintendent, intelligence and enforcement bureau of excise here.The accused persons were allegedly transporting the ganja from Kandhamal district to Bengaluru via Berhampur in the cars when the excise team searched their vehicles. The excise personnel are investigating the involvement of other persons in the drug smuggling. They have verified the accused persons’ involvement in the NDPS case in the past at any police station in the state or other states, he added.
