Kanpur: A 13-year-old girl helped police arrest a man accused of abducting and raping her by luring him back to the city with fake photographs of jewellery allegedly worth Rs 20 lakh, generated using artificial intelligence (AI).The accused, a resident of Agra, had befriended the girl on social media around a month ago and allegedly ensnared her in a romantic relationship.According to police, the accused took the minor to Agra on July 6, kept her confined for two days, and raped her. On July 9, he allegedly brought her back to Kanpur Central railway station on some pretext and abandoned her there before fleeing.The girl later returned home and narrated the ordeal to her family.

Based on her complaint, a case was registered on July 11.Police said the girl was determined to see the accused punished and agreed to assist investigators in setting a trap. As part of the plan, she resumed contact with the man and gradually regained his trust.On July 24, she told him that she wanted to live with him. When he appeared reluctant, she claimed she had fled home with jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh. Police said the man asked her to send photographs of the ornaments.The girl used AI tools to create images of the jewellery and shared them with him on WhatsApp. Convinced by the photographs, the accused agreed to come to Kanpur to meet her and collect the valuables, police said.When he reached Kanpur on Sunday, a police team arrested him at the railway station.Inspector Pradeep Kumar Singh said the accused was produced before a court and sent to jail.
