Varanasi: Dashashwamedh police on Sunday arrested eight pimps who were extorting money from pilgrims by misleading them with promises of arranging entry into the Kashi Vishwanath Temple for darshan without joining the queue.ADCP (Kashi Zone) Vaibhav Bangar said a team from Dashashwamedh police station was engaged in identifying persons involved in cheating devotees and extorting money in the vicinity of Kashi Vishwanath Dham through continuous monitoring of CCTV footage and inputs from informers.The exercise led to the arrest of Pawan Chaurasia, 25, of Misir Pokhra; Akash Pandey, 22, of Ghazipur; Shivam Chaudhary, 18, of Meerghat; Krishna Kumar Jha, 18, of Darbhanga, currently living in Vishwanath Gali; Bhupendra Yadav, 24, of Gorakhpur; Prem Kumar, 18, of Chandauli; Shivam Pandey, 25, of Patthar Gali; and Sanskar Keshari, 22, of Padao, Ramnagar.The police said the operation was aimed at curbing touting and protecting visitors from harassment in the crowded temple zone.
