Cuttack: Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) will bring together more than 600 girls from slum areas across all 59 wards of the city to celebrate Raja Parba on June 14.The participants, all aged below 15 years, will take part in a daylong programme, also featuring cultural activities and awareness campaigns. More than 60 CMC personnel have been deployed to coordinate and manage the event.The civic body has planned Raja-themed decorations, free alata and mehndi application, face and nail art sessions, food stalls, art and craft workshops for children and various other recreational activities. Free meals and refreshments will also be provided to all participants, said the CMC.Cuttack mayor Subhash Singh said the programme was designed to celebrate womanhood while spreading an important social message.“Raja celebrates the dignity of women. Through this initiative, we want every girl, irrespective of her social or economic background, to participate in the festivities,” said Singh.“As part of the celebrations, we will also launch the ‘Red Box’ campaign to promote safe disposal of sanitary waste and menstrual hygiene awareness. Special red boxes will be placed in door-to-door garbage collection vehicles to enable women to dispose of used sanitary pads separately,” said Singh.The waste will be scientifically incinerated, reducing the need for sanitation workers to manually handle them and lowering their risk of infections.The event is expected to witness participation from community representatives, civic officials and volunteers.
