Gurgaon: GMDA has proposed five elevated corridors and seven flyovers and underpasses across key stretches of the city to create signal-free routes and reduce congestion on major roads.The proposed elevated corridors include NH8 to Vatika Chowk and Vatika Chowk to Ghata Chowk along SPR, Rajiv Chowk to Atul Kataria Chowk, Mahavir Chowk to IFFCO Chowk and Atul Kataria Chowk to Dwarka Expressway along Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road. These stretches witness heavy vehicular movement and frequent bottlenecks.The projects were announced at a meeting chaired by GMDA CEO PC Meena with MCG councillors and senior officials in attendance on Tuesday evening.According to a GMDA official, seven flyovers and underpasses will come up at Dadi Sati Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk and Millennium City Centre, among other places.Meena said, “GMDA is pursuing a comprehensive development roadmap for Gurgaon with major investments in roads, mobility, drainage, green infrastructure and social amenities. Through closer collaboration with public representatives, we aim to ensure that developmental works are aligned with on-ground requirements and implemented with greater effectiveness and accountability.”According to GMDA, 51 road infrastructure projects worth around Rs 386 crore received administrative approval. Of these, 12 projects have already been allotted, while 39 are under the process of allotment.These included improvement of the road from Atul Kataria Chowk to the Sector 3-5 junction, construction of the service road along Subhash Chowk to Hero Honda Chowk and special repair of IFFCO Chowk to SPR, Basai Chowk to Old Railway, and IFFCO Chowk, among others.“Various infrastructure works are being undertaken by GMDA, including road strengthening, junction improvement, service roads and mobility to ease traffic movement and riding experience for the commuters. Similarly, five elevated corridors have been proposed to improve connectivity and ease traffic in new and older parts of the city,” the GMDA official added.During the meeting, councillors raised issues related to drainage and waterlogging in their respective wards. The authority proposed regular coordination meetings and joint field visits with councillors for quicker resolution of civic issues.GMDA informed the councillors about monsoon preparedness works, including desilting operations and drainage strengthening projects. Officials said more than 200 personnel have been deployed for desilting works ahead of the monsoon season.To address recurring waterlogging, GMDA proposed development of 20 to 25 retention ponds across the city for stormwater management. Officials also said some green belts are being redesigned into “green drains” to improve stormwater flow during heavy rainfall.The authority said that a construction debris clearance drive is underway at multiple locations, including SPR, Subhash Chowk and Atul Kataria Chowk. CCTV cameras will be installed at vulnerable spots to check illegal dumping of construction and demolition waste.
