Vadodara: Heart-rending scenes unfolded at Govinda Talai village in Sanjeli taluka of Dahod on Sunday, as the bodies of five members of a family killed in the explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Ramol area of Ahmedabad, were brought home for the last rites. The explosion occurred on Saturday afternoon.The deceased were identified as Ramila Charel, daughters Rinku, Shivani and Ravina, and son Nirav. The lone survivor of the family, Bharat Varsing Charel, suffered severe burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ahmedabad.As ambulances carrying the bodies reached the village, grieving relatives and residents broke down, plunging the village into mourning. Revenue and police officials, along with local elected representatives, were present during the final rites and assured the bereaved family of all possible govt assistance.The Charel family was residing in Ahmedabad for work when the blast ripped through the firecracker unit on Ramol-Gatrad Road. The explosion claimed nine lives, including three children, and left several others with serious burn injuries. The impact of the blast was so powerful that nearby houses were damaged. Police detained the factory owner and launched an investigation into how the unit continued to operate despite its licence being allegedly cancelled.
