AHMEDABAD: Four municipal corporations in Gujarat, including those in Surat and Bhavnagar, received emails on Wednesday threatening bomb blasts on their premises. Authorities initiated intensive search operations, though police reported that no suspicious objects were found.Similar threats were sent via email to a school in Vadodara, as well as the municipal corporations of Vadodara and Jamnagar, officials informed.Police stated that the emails were purportedly sent by the ‘Khalistan National Army’ and claimed the attacks were intended to avenge the ‘martyrdom’ of their leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, news agency PTI reported.Vadodara deputy commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Verma stated, “Threat emails were received by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and Navrachana School in the city. Search operations were carried out on the premises of these institutions, and nothing suspicious was found.”Regarding the situation in Jamnagar, DCP Zone 2 Raghav Jain said, “A search was conducted at the municipal corporation. The entire premises were vacated and searched for nearly two hours, but nothing suspicious was found.”Bhavnagar superintendent of police Nitesh Pandey added that a search operation was initiated immediately and a team was deployed to the civic body upon receiving the threat.“During the search, no suspicious object, explosive material, or dangerous substance was found; consequently, the police declared the building completely safe. After the search was completed, office-bearers, officers, and employees were allowed to re-enter the office,” he said.Police noted that this is not the first instance of such threat emails in Gujarat. On June 10, emails purportedly sent by the same group threatened to blow up the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office in Gandhinagar, as well as the offices of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the RSS.These threats also triggered intensive search operations, but no suspicious objects were found, and the claims were confirmed as hoaxes.
