3 children found travelling on train without adults, sent to observation home

Ahmedabad: Officials from Gujarat Railway Police (GRP) and Childline, while searching a train from Bihar on Friday, found three children travelling without their immediate relatives. The children were sent to an observation home while efforts to contact their families continue, officials said.“Based on information from a social worker, the train from Darbhanga to Ahmedabad was checked for children being brought to the state as labourers. Along with members of Prayas NGO, the teams checked the train’s coaches at Kalupur railway station and found 22 children travelling without their parents. They were accompanied by other persons. Their identity cards and purpose of travel were checked,” an official said.Three were found to have no adult accompanying them. “They were presented to the Child Welfare Committee in the city and sent to a shelter home. Their parents will be contacted and they will be sent following the due process,” said the official.Officials from Childline said the crackdown on child labour will continue with checks on trains and industrial units in the city.
