Belagavi: Twenty eight corporators were elected unopposed to the four standing committees of the 24th-term Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) on Wednesday.A total of 28 nominations were filed for the 28 available positions. With no additional nominations filed and none of the candidates withdrawing from the fray, regional commissioner and returning officer KM Janaki completed the election process and declared all 28 candidates elected unopposed. Mayor Preeti Kamakar congratulated the newly elected members and said the unanimous outcome reflected the cooperation among all corporators. She expressed confidence that the committee members would work collectively and prioritise the city’s development.Deputy mayor Hanamant Kongali said the corporation is expected to receive Rs 34 crore under the 16th finance commission, citing the quality of development works undertaken by the civic body. He added that BCC has been selected under the smart city and CITIES 2.0 initiatives among Karnataka’s seven city corporations and that Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for developmental work in each ward.
