275 drunk drivers challaned, vehicle impounded during 12-day special drive in Gurgaon

GURGAON: Gurgaon Traffic Police issued challans to 275 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol and impounded one vehicle during a 12-day special enforcement drive conducted across the city between July 1 and July 12.The campaign was launched to curb drunken driving and improve road safety.Dedicated traffic police teams were deployed at identified locations with specific operational instructions, and naka checking was carried out at multiple points across the city.During the drive, police found 275 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol.Action was taken against all of them under the relevant provisions of the law, with 275 challans issued and one vehicle impounded.Police said the driving licence of every person challaned for drunk driving is suspended for three months, during which the individual is not permitted to drive any vehicle.Officials said the objective of the campaign was to reduce incidents of drunken driving, ensure stricter compliance with traffic regulations and make traffic movement safer, more disciplined and better organised.Police also appealed to motorists not to drive after consuming alcohol or any other intoxicant and to follow traffic rules.Police added that special night checking drives through checkpoints are conducted regularly across the city, and strict legal action is taken against motorists found driving under the influence.Such enforcement drives will continue in the future, officials said.
