At least 26 locations were jointly raided by investigation agencies and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday as part of a crackdown on a suspected terror-linked network.
The coordinated searches were carried out across the city of Sopore. The raids came following a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).
The raids were aimed at uncovering the activities of an alleged underground network associated with the banned outfit.
Earlier this year, on May 25, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a series of raids across the Kashmir Valley in connection with a terror-funding probe linked to JeI.
Multiple educational institutions and the residence of a former chief of the proscribed outfit were searched back then.
The May raids were conducted at three locations in Srinagar and Shopian districts, where investigators recovered several incriminating financial documents and electronic gadgets suspected to be linked to the activities of JeI and its associated trusts and organisations in Jammu and Kashmir.
At the time, the anti-terror agency said its investigators had found that JeI was collecting funds domestically and internationally in the name of charitable and welfare activities, only to later divert them to terror outfits such as Hizbul Mujahideen to support violent and secessionist causes.
