Belagavi: Public works minister Satish Jarkiholi on Monday asserted that the Congress will contest the 2028 Assembly elections under the leadership of former chief minister Siddaramaiah, dismissing speculation over any move to sideline the veteran leader.Speaking to reporters at the zilla panchayat office here, Jarkiholi said there was no question of ignoring Siddaramaiah and that the party remained committed to fighting the next assembly polls under his leadership. He said there was currently no need for a debate on who should lead the Ahinda movement, adding that leadership changes were a natural and periodic process in politics. Instead of engaging in unnecessary discussions, the focus should be on further strengthening and consolidating the Ahinda community, he said.Responding to queries on a possible cabinet expansion, Jarkiholi said the party high command would take the final call on the induction of new ministers. He added that the leadership would weigh all factors that could maximise the party’s electoral prospects before arriving at a decision.Addressing concerns over crop conditions, Jarkiholi said there was currently no shortage of drinking water for people or livestock in the district. Sowing operations had been completed, and if rainfall failed in the coming weeks, the govt would conduct a joint survey and ensure compensation for affected farmers.Commenting on the alleged theft of donations from the Ayodhya Ram Mandir donation box, Jarkiholi said the Centre should treat the incident with utmost seriousness. He added that chief minister DK Shivakumar had directed officials to take stringent measures to prevent such incidents in Karnataka. The minister also stressed that donations made by devotees should be utilised for the development and welfare of temples.
