Tata Motors aims to maintain its dominance in the electric vehicle (EV) segment with new product launches in the coming years. The carmaker recently introduced the updated Tiago and Tiago EV, which will soon be followed by the highly-anticipated Tata Sierra EV on June 30, 2026. Tata has also confirmed that the Safari EV will arrive during this year’s Diwali season.

Interestingly, the Tata Sierra EV and Tata Safari EV will be offered with an AWD (all-wheel drive) system. An AWD drivetrain system provides better traction on tough terrains along with improved acceleration and stability. Both electric SUVs are expected to be offered with multiple battery pack options, and single and dual motor configurations. The AWD drivetrain layout will be reserved for the higher trims equipped with the dual electric motor.

Sharing Powertrain With Harrier EV

Official powertrain specifications of the Sierra EV and Safari EV will be revealed closer to their launch. According to reports, Tata Motors might use the Harrier EV’s 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs for both the upcoming electric SUVs.

The Tata Harrier EV is currently available in three configurations – 65kWh RWD, 75kWh RWD and 75kWh dual-motor AWD. The 65kWh and 75kWh battery pack variants paired with a single motor, delivering power worth 238PS and 315Nm of torque. The dual-motor AWD variants are good enough for 396PS and 504Nm.

The Harrier EV offers a claimed range of 538km for the 65kWh RWD variant, 627km for the 75kWh RWD variant and 622km for the 75kWh dual-motor AWD variant. The upcoming Tata Sierra EV and Safari EV are expected to deliver a range of over 500km on a full charge. Both are likely to support DC fast charging and offer V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) functionalities.

EV-Specific Design Changes

The new Tata electric SUVs will look largely similar to their ICE counterparts, expect a few EV-specific changes. On the exterior, the Sierra EV and Safari EV will feature a sealed-off grille, revised front and rear bumpers, EV badges and newly-designed aero-optimized alloy wheels.
