Ghaziabad: Work on two new ramps that will improve connectivity to the Hindon Elevated Road from Indirapuram and Vasundhara will begin within a month and is expected to be completed in 18 months, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) said, after the design for the project was finalised. The Hindon Elevated Road currently has two ramps. The Vasundhara ramp allows vehicles to enter the elevated road and merge with traffic heading from UP Gate towards Raj Nagar Extension (RNE), while the Kanawani ramp in Indirapuram allows vehicles travelling from RNE towards UP Gate to exit the elevated road. There is, however, no ramp at Vasundhara for traffic heading towards UP Gate, and no ramp at Kanawani for vehicles travelling towards Indirapuram. The two proposed ramps will address both gaps.Tenders for the Rs 90-crore project will be floated within 10 days, a GDA official said. The ramps will differ in length — 590 metres on the Indirapuram side and 620 metres on the Vasundhara side — with a carriageway width of 7.5 metres each. They will run parallel to the existing ramps and will be designed to allow vehicles to maintain speeds of 40-50 km/hour.Prestressed concrete girders, which resist tension from heavy structural loads through compressive forces applied via stretched steel tendons, will be used in construction. Precast girders will be placed at a centre-to-centre spacing of 30 metres, enabling the structure to bear the weight of heavy vehicles. The 7.5-metre carriage width will allow easy manoeuvring, the official said. Two rotaries of 50-metre diameter will be built at ground level at the ends of the ramps to enable unrestricted traffic flow without signals. The Hindon Elevated Road, commissioned in 2018, connects UP Gate at the Ghazipur border with Raj Nagar Extension, cutting travel time on the corridor from 45 minutes to 10. The new ramps are expected to significantly ease access to the bustling residential townships in Indirapuram and Vasundhara.
