Patna: A day before Independence Day, the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) announced police medals for 18 Bihar Police officers and personnel. One has been selected for the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, two for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service and 15 for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.Inspector Mohammad Afsar Hussain has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry for his role in an anti-Maoist operation in the forest area of Bagaha in West Champaran on July 10, 2020. Hussain was part of a search operation when an encounter broke out between police and Maoists.IG Sanjay Kumar, currently serving in special branch, and Muzaffarpur rail SP Beena Kumari have been selected for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.Sanjay joined Bihar Police as a DSP in 1995 and was promoted to IPS in 2013. He has served as SP of the Economic Offences Unit and Madhepura, principal of CTS Nathnagar, and DIG of Munger Range and Cyber Crime. His first posting as IG was in BSAP.Beena joined Bihar Police as a DSP in 1999 and was promoted to IPS in 2019. She has served as SP in Vigilance and CID’s Weaker Section, commandant of BSAP-4 and was posted at Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir.DIG Rakesh Kumar Sinha, SP Imtiaz Ahmed and other inspectors, sub-inspectors, ASIs, havildars and constables have been honoured with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.Sinha joined the police service as a DSP in 1999 and was inducted into IPS in 2012. After his first posting in Dumka, Jharkhand, in 2001, he was allotted Bihar cadre and served in Rohtas, Sheikhpura, Jehanabad, Nalanda and other districts. He has also handled responsibilities in STF, ATS and Vigilance. He is currently DIG in the Vigilance Investigation Bureau and has served as a Police Observer during Punjab and Gujarat elections. He has received 32 commendation certificates.The other awardees are Mohammad Irshad Alam, Rajesh Kumar Singh, Santosh Chhetri, Anand Prakash, Mukesh Kumar Singh, Lav Kush Kumar, Amitabh Giri, Shambhu Nath Singh, Santosh Alle Magar, Rupesh Thapa, Tapan Gurung, Chhatra Bahadur Thapa and Santosh Kumar Thakuri.
