Aizawl: Mizoram Police and the state excise and narcotics department officials seized 1.280 kg of heroin and 18.520 kg of marijuana (cannabis) in four operations this week this week and arrested six people, official sources said on Thursday.H Ramthlengliana, inspector general of police (IGP) and chief public relations officer of Mizoram Police, said officals of Saitual police station and Assam Rifles personnel seized 868 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth Rs 1.74 crore, during a joint operation on the outskirts of Keifang town in Saitual district on Thursday.The heroin was recovered from a Nagaland-registered truck, Ramthlengliana said. The truck driver, Monwar Singh Barbhuiya, and handyman Abdul Kayum Munna, both residents of Assam’s Cachar district, were arrested.A case was registered at Saitual Police Station under Sections 21(c)/25/29 of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.In another operation at Keifang town in Saitual district on Monday, the district police seized 292 grams of heroin valued at around Rs 58.40 lakh. Vungngailun, a resident of Henglep village in Manipur, was arrested for allegedly transporting the contraband from Manipur towards Aizawl. A case was registered under Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act, 1985.In a third operation in south Mizoram’s Hnahthial district, state excise and narcotics department officials, assisted by local civil society volunteers, seized 120 grams of heroin on the outskirts of New Ngharchhip village near the Tiau river along the Mizoram-Myanmar border on Wednesday. MC Lalhuzauva (36) of Tarpho village and Vanlalpeka (33) of Khawhri village were arrested while trying to sell the contraband smuggled from Myanmar. They were booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and produced before a district court on Thursday.Earlier in a separate operation on Sunday, Ngopa police station officials and Assam Rifles personnel seized 18.52 kg of marijuana, estimated to be worth Rs 9.26 lakh, at Kawlbem village in Saitual district. Samuel Lalruatpuia, a resident of the village, was arrested.
