Kanpur: A youth accused of sexual assault on a minor girl got injured in a police encounter after he attempted escape in Etawah on Saturday night.The youth was detained for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in Badhpura police station area of Etawah district on Saturday afternoon.The accused lured the girl, daughter of brick kiln labourer, with mangoes and took her to a secluded place. Villagers caught the suspect at the scene.According to CO Ayushi Singh, the girl, along with another child, was picking mangoes on Saturday afternoon when the 22-year-old accused lured her with more mangoes and took her to a secluded area near a private school and sexually assaulted her.The child accompanying the girl ran to inform the family. The girl’s family, along with the villagers, rushed to the site and found the girl in injured condition. They caught the accused while he was trying to escape and informed the police.SP City Abhay Nath Tripathi and CO Jaswantnagar Ayushi Singh arrived at the site with police force and sent the victim to hospital for examination.Under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, police filed a case under the Pocso Act and detained the suspect. During questioning, the accused confessed to his crime and disclosed that he hid clothing and other evidence near Kamet canal area.When the police team, led by Inspector-in-charge Narendra Mishra, went to retrieve the evidence on Saturday night, the suspect seized sub-inspector Kuldeep Singh’s pistol and fired at the police in an attempt to escape.However, in retaliatory action by the police the accused got injured and was arrested, said the CO. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment.Police have seized an official pistol, two spent cartridges (9 MM), clothing and other evidence of the crime. Further legal proceedings are underway.
