‘What Good Is Money If You’re Alone?’: Chennai Man ‘Self-Deports’ To India, Calls Canada ‘One Depressing Country’

For a long time, moving to a western country was seen as the ultimate dream. People only talked about the good parts—like the snowy pictures, airport check-ins, and earning in foreign currency. But lately, many young Indians living abroad are starting to speak out about the hidden emotional costs of moving away from home.

The newest viral moment comes from a man named Sudharson from Chennai. He posted a video explaining why he decided to leave his life in Canada for good and come back to India. “What up, guys? I self-deported myself back to India. Yes, what good is money if you don’t got anyone to spend it with? So, this is my first smile after a long time because Canada is one depressing country. Who agrees?”

He shared the video from Chennai with a short question: “Who is next?” His video has comments from people who are debating which is better – choose mental peace and or trying to build a life abroad. In earlier videos, he had shared his struggles with finding a job abroad.

For many migrants who are secretly struggling with long winters and a lack of a support system, Sudharson’s video felt incredibly relatable. One user wrote to support him: “Very true ! Good luck my friend ! May God be with you ! You will succeed because you have the right attitude.”

Another person who made the same choice to move back home to India two years ago agreed completely, saying you can be happy and successful without leaving your home country: “Left canada 2 years ago , cannot be more happier, and those who say there is nothing in India “they need to earn first” , India has everything for everyone , at the end both countries require you to work hard and earn , atleast work hard where you are happy 🙌”

‘Any Country Is Depressing Without Money’

On the other side of the debate, many people disagreed with Sudharson. They argued that his bad experience in Canada was simply because he didn’t have enough money or patience to settle down properly.

Some people on Instagram also pointed out that the benefits of living in a developed nation always come with a sacrifice: “Depressing if you don’t have the money. But to have the luxury of clean air and abundance of water in Canada, you will have to sacrifice a few things, but kudos to you bro.”

‘Giving Up Too Easily’

The comments got even more intense when some users accused Sudharson of wanting quick success instead of working hard at his jobs. They felt he gave up on the immigrant life too quickly: “India is more your pace. You didn’t want to work, tried get rich quick schemes, and failed. If you had actually stuck with the jobs you had, you could have made it in Canada. But that kind of life isn’t for everyone. India should be easier for you. Good luck!”

Some people even predicted that he would change his mind and try to leave India again very soon: “Watch him move back to Canada In 6—7 months !!!”
