Chatra: An unidentified woman’s body was recovered from a water-filled abandoned stone mine in Chatra district on Friday. The body was found floating in stagnant water inside the closed quarry near Jajlo market under Hunterganj police station limits. According to police, villagers spotted the body in the morning and alerted the authorities.A police team, led by Hunterganj police station in charge Prabhat Kumar, took the body into custody and sent it to Chatra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. “Pictures of the body have been circulated to nearby police stations to establish her identity,” said Kumar.Locals suspect that the woman may have been murdered and her body dumped in the abandoned mine. Given the site’s proximity to the Jharkhand-Bihar border, villagers expressed apprehension that the crime might have occurred across the border, with the body later brought and disposed of in the mine. “We are making efforts to identify the deceased,” Kumar added.
