Following a report in The Hindu – Stir Over Crumbling School building’ highlighting the condition of a dilapidated school building in Komira on Monday, education department officials conducted an urgent inspection of the Mandal Parishad Primary School (MPPS) on Tuesday to assess the structure.
The site visit was led by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Assistant Engineer and Mandal Education Officer (MEO) M. Lingamurthy, along with local representatives.
The school currently caters to 71 students, but has only one dilapidated classroom. Due to the unsafe condition of the building, the school management has been forced to conduct classes in a nearby Ramalayam temple—a situation parents highlighted as impractical especially with the onset of the monsoon.
Headmistress S.K. Sirisha Rani submitted a detailed report documenting the structural risks and the acute lack of space to the MEO.
“We have assessed the situation on the ground. What was reported in The Hindu is true” MEO M. Lingamurthy said.
“The report submitted by the school will be forwarded to the District Educational Officer (DEO) immediately to push for necessary approvals and construction of a new facility,” he added.
The inspection was attended by village elders, parents, and community leaders, including former Sarpanch G. Ravikumar and CPM leader K. Govindarao, who has been advocating for the safety and educational needs of students.
